"Renewable Energy with Subsurface Storage & Next Generation Geothermal" with Mike Eros with Sage Geosystems

Sage is pioneering a new technology to store energy underground as high-pressure water, which has the potential to allow intermittent renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar to provide 24 / 7 power. This power can be baseload, in this case. Since 2020, Sage has employed cutting edge technology from the oil and gas industry to create man-made, underground, sealed reservoirs in large scale, vertical fractures. Based in Houston with field testing sites in South Texas, Sage technologies being demonstrated today for subsurface energy storage are market competitive with both lithium ion batteries, and pumped storage Hydro power. These same technologies lay the groundwork for proving commercial scale, hot dry rock geothermal power, which the company will be testing in the field beginning in 2025.

Bio: Mike Eros has over 15 years of experience building subsurface interpretations and leading multifunctional technical teams in the energy industry, most recently as Chief Geoscientist for Sage Geosystems. Prior to Sage he worked for more than 12 years in exploration and field production geoscience for ExxonMobil, developing oil and gas and carbon capture assets in onshore and deepwater U.S., West Africa, and Guyana. With an MSc degree from the University of California, Davis in Geology and a BA in Geosciences from William College, Mike has also led public policy research for the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and is a licensed Professional Geologist (P.Geo.) in Texas.
